Ahoy from Acadia Seashore! Before I share details, I’d like to welcome you here. Meaning? Well, here goes.

I love to paint. For several months each year, we tow a small teardrop camper (and my mobile studio). I bring my paints and sketch and paint as we travel and trek. This year, we made it as far north as Newfoundland.

The Setting

This week’s painting is from Sullivan Maine. We have camped here for several years. Guess why? OK you don’t have to guess. Here’s the view:

Our little camper is off to the right of this image. Then, there are a few trees and then the mighty ocean. Pretty nifty, eh? But I confess we may not return to this spot again. The traffic noise was incredibly loud at night. And, the campground owners are cramming in more campsites as we speak. Ugh! Still, what a beautiful view, right?

I had lots of fun painting this one! Why? The air was cool, pristine and calm. The temperature was heavenly. And, those two trees just look like two people having a conversation. Don’t they? More Maine Adventures

Before we packed up to head back to NC, I was lucky enough to go kayaking with our dear pal, Kathy Clark. She’s known (as a legendary kayaker) in the Maine kayaking world. And, her nickname is “Aunt Kathy” because she’s everyone’s aunt and she is known for her generosity and home made cookies. And, she has the patience to go kayaking with me on a lake. (My ocean kayaking husband, David, considers this a yawn of kayaking adventure. HA! After all, he and Kathy ocean kayaked for 6-hours the day before.) Here’s a pic of Kathy and me taken by David. We had a blast!

But Wait There’s More

On the way home, the artistic highlight was stopping at Frederick Church’s home in Hudson, New York. It’s a beautiful 250 acre property called Olana along the Hudson River. And, Church embraced native gardening wayyyyy before it was even on our radars. How? He transformed farmland by reinvigorating a lake and planting hundreds of native oak trees and plants; a project that took 20 years to complete. This also meant, he could walk out of his house to epic views to paint.

If you ever get the chance to visit this beautiful place, go! Admission is free to the property and there are several trails with gorgeous views. I paid a small admission fee to tour his house. Here are a few photos of the beautiful decorations in and incredible view from the house.
